Oh dear lord please let it be true. MMS on the iPhone right now is about the worst usability nightmare imaginable. You get a text message with an unclickable URL, and a username and password, both impossible to copy and paste into the fields in Safari. There is no reason for it. It’s awful.
Please please please let this rumor be true so I can see all the baby pictures my family members are always sending me instead of me faking it.
Lunch
While Gatti manned the grill once again this Friday (despite crippling humidity, I might add), Doug and Kenji paid homage to our mechanical beast of burden, Taco Dog, by creating the dish that might possibly be construed to be TD’s namesake, had the dish’s creation not come way later.
A taco dog is more or less what you might guess from the context here. You start by grilling up a hot dog. Then, the dog’s tossed in a Cuisinart and shredded into little chunks about the size of your typical ground beef bits. The meat’s then placed into a toasted taco shell, seasoned with salsa and assorted taco spices, and then topped with shredded lettuce and cheese.
It’s actually very tasty. I think the trick to it is that you don’t need to use an entire hot dog for your taco filling; about half a dog will do. While this is mostly just because that’s about the right proportion when it comes to balancing your ingredients in the space you have, it keeps the hot dog flavor from overpowering any of the other toppings. The result is a wash of that traditional taste of Mexico, hand in hand with some good old fashioned American meat-mash.
But all entirely in a good way.
Shadow Play with Hecuba
Friends and collaborators Hecuba are playing at the triple canopy launch party tomorrow night at SiteLA, and I’ll be doing some processing-powered live visuals during the show. If you’re in LA and looking for something to do it should be a great night.
Intel Never Deploying Vista Internally
I’m honestly not sure how accurate this article is but it seems legit enough to me. It basically says that Intel will never deploy Vista to its internal corporate machines, ever.
When a company as tech savvy as Intel, with full source code access and having written several large chunks of the OS, says get stuffed, you know you have a problem. Well, everyone knows MS has a problem, but it is nice to see it codified in such a black and white way though. Reassuring, like a warm cup of tea, or a public kick to the corporate crown jewels.
Man that is seriously bad for Microsoft. Article continues on with:
The other one is the big white horse in the corner, Mac OS. If there was ever a company that is loyal to Intel, it is Apple. If there was ever a company that could make MacOS work internally, it is Intel. While any marriage with the turtlenecked sociopath is a match made in hell, don’t count this one out either.
I would love that, MacOS operating better in an enterprise environment? freaking awesome. DO IT INTEL YEA!!!
Libraries in a digital age
In the case you don’t know me, I’m a copy-lefter for the most part. The other day I saw a Kindle in real life and I was pretty impressed. The display looks really awesome, I mean they did a really good job at engineering something that looks like paper but is actually a digital display…. well ok so I didn’t get the best look at it cause I was looking over someones shoulder on the train but yeah…..
Anyway!
After I glanced up from the kindle I noticed everyone else on the train has hard bound library books and it hit me. WTF is gonna happen to plain old libraries when these subscription based ebook readers finally go big time? Its always been interesting to me that people will pay to lease books when they could do it for free from the library. I guess convenience is the factor here, instead of having to trek to the library and carry those 7 volumes of Harry Potter home, you can simply sit on the train and have them downloaded directly to your kindle.
But still, where does that leave our librarians and our brick and motar libraries? do they by default become digital librarians and digital libraries? more questions than answers from me, but does anyone have any further reading I could look into?
Megapuss Dukoff Hammer Pictures
Photo: Pitchfork So everything went pretty well the other night. A few places wrote about the show and the band’s “unique” choice of fashion accessories. It was a difficult task of showing images from Lauren’s forthcoming book, many of which feature Devendra, while not showing too many pictures of him projected behind him which is just [...]
